It was
a regular working day until I received a ring from an Infoscion whom I hardly
knew. He wanted to meet me for handing over a box of chocolates. He had just
returned from onsite and I was all the more surprised by his gesture as we
barely knew each other. It was then that he clarified, that the chocolates were
from Hersh Chanchal Sahni, a Test Analyst who worked with me long back. Hersh
and Abhi (who brought me the chocolates) were working on the same project at
onsite and the latter had come for a vacation to India.
A
sudden rush of joy gushed in me. I had worked with Hersh for a very short span,
but was immensely satisfied with his quality of work and the sense of ownership
this guy showed. He was instrumental in helping me set the device cloud at
Pune, while I was administering and controlling the activities from Chennai. I
had written an appreciation note to his manager and DM, citing the zeal the guy
possesses and thanking him for all the good work. That note left a mark in him,
I believe. He felt energetic and worked with even more passion in the days that
followed. We had not been in-touch for a year post the lab launch. Hersh
travelled onsite and our paths never crossed. But I have been somewhere in a corner
of his memory and that reflected as a ‘box of toblerone’.
The sweet gesture from Hersh made me believe stronger, what a simple note of appreciation can do. As managers, we are the best role models to team. We are sure to leave a positive impact by efficiently running our chores and guiding them best, during the challenging times. On a lighter note, I would end this way – ‘Whatever we wished our manager was, let us be one to our team J’. Wishing everyone, a great year ahead!!
